Collagen or Dermal filler is a technique of injecting substances recognized by the body into the skin to fill up wrinkles, facial lines and scars. Some
of the commonly used fillers are:
-
Juvederm
-
Restylane
-
Perlane
-
Aquamid
They are normally a clear gel that is injected into the skin with a very thin needle. The injected gel gives natural volume under the wrinkle, which is lifted up and smoothed out. A treatment takes about 30 minutes and the results can be seen immediately. The method is fast and safe and leaves no scars or other traces on the face.

Depending on the depth of the scar, dermal fillers of different molecular weight
are selected as implants. There are probably 25 different types of injectable
fillers which have been approved by US FDA. Some of the commonly used fillers
such as Juvederm and Restylane are made from hyaluronic acid, a sugar-based gel. These substances are naturally present in the skin and joints of all living organisms. Since this substance is naturally occurring a skin test is not required. For best results it is advisable for a dermal filler procedure to be followed by a series of collagen stimulation procedures such as Non Ablative Laser Abrasion, Non Ablative Collagen Stimulation, Intense Pulse Light, Radiofrequency or Microdermabrasion.
