What is BTX-A

BTX-A is acronym for Botulinum Toxin Type A. It is a natural protein produced by microorganism Clostridium Botulinum. It is popularly known either as BOTOX® (from Allergan pharmaceuticals, USA) or DYSPORT (from Ipsen pharmaceuticals, UK).  BTX-A injections have been used safely and effectively for many years to treat many medical, ophthalmological and neurological conditions. In the last 20 years, BTX-A has pioneered in the field of cosmetic medicine and some of the cosmetic indication have earned the approval of US FDA.

Dysport Cosmetic Procedure is a non-surgical procedure that reduces dynamic wrinkles or fine lines of the face and neck. Why does facial lines occur?

When Dysport Cosmetic is injected into a muscle, it blocks impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles. Those muscles cannot "scrunch up" for a period of time. The muscles are relaxed and the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled. The untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion allowing normal facial expression to remain unaffected.

Contraindications of BTX-A

BTX-A is not advised in the following situations:

• Pregnancy & lactation

• While on certain antibiotics (Aminoglycosides)

• Active infection at site of injection

• Underlying degenerative or muscle weakness disorders
